Cycling Inclusion for The Rose of Galway

It’s always great to see children with disabilities being included in cycling activities with their family and friends. Say hello to Rose who is from the wonderful county of Galway!

Since receiving her brand new special mobility trike from us here at Variety Ireland, Rose is now able to join in with his family and friends on bike rides and got to enjoy the fun, freedom and inclusion that these specialised trikes can offer many children.

Not only do they benefit each  child’s physical wellbeing, but also have a positive impact on the mental wellbeing of all family members.

This is all due to the help of fellow Galwegians Minister Hildegarde Naughton from The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, who along with Minister Sean Canney from The Department of Transport, who support our Recycle Mobility Programme.

This ensures hundreds of children like Rose are already being included in cycling activities with their friends and other family members. Here is a note we received from Rose’s mother, telling us all about the impact that Rose’s new trike is having on both her and the family:

Many happy years of cycling Rose from all of us here at Variety Ireland and our supporters at The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, The Department of Transport, and the HSE who support our Recycle Mobility Programme.

“Dear Variety Ireland,
I want to thank you and all the team for supplying a special mobility trike to our child Rose .
You have no idea what this means to us as a family. The smile on her face in the videos and photos says it all.
She  is just so happy and excited to be able to get outdoors and cycle. This trike is a real game changer for us as a family as it allows Rose to be included in outdoor activities which up to now was a real struggle.
The fact that these trikes have to be special built and cost so much money puts them beyond reach of most families in Ireland.
Thanks to the support of your charity and the support of Minister Hildegarde Naughton and Minister Sean Canney and the HSE, Rose now has equal access to be able to cycle with his friends and other family members, it’s just brilliant and a real-life changer for us as a family.
Rose can now cycle to school which is just over 2kms and loves to be able to partake in bicycle activities at school during active week.  As a family we can now all go cycling again which Rose loves and the picnic also!! She is a lot more active, and her leg strength is great with all the pedalling !!!  The trike is incredibly comfortable, sturdy, and secure, giving her the confidence to ride even on uneven terrain.
We are so grateful for this trike—it’s truly improved Rose’s quality of life and provided her with a renewed sense of independence.
Thank you so much!
 Kind regards,”
 Marie (Rose’s mother)
