Inclusive Cycling Event for National Bike Week

National Bike Week offers important benefits for children with disabilities by promoting inclusion, confidence, and independence through accessible cycling activities.

One of the main highlights of National Bike Week for Variety Ireland was partnering with Fingal County Council, where we brought together numerous disability groups for an inclusive morning of cycling at Millennium Park in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15.

Thanks to the support and partnership with the HSE, The Department of Children, Disability and Equality, The Department of Transport and Comotion, we at Variety Ireland were able to mobilise one of our Mobile Cycling Units who turned up on site with a range of special adapted bikes so people with additional needs could be included in a fun morning of cycling.
Not only does this bring joy and laughter to the faces of the people attending but also provides vital physical exercise for the users.  This in turn improves strength, coordination, and overall wellbeing.
Cycling also encourages social interaction, helping people with additional needs to build friendships and feel part of their community. Members of the Blanchardstown Garda Unit, Chole and Stephen were also on hand to join in the fun and ensure all participants maintained the rules of the road on the special cycling track installed by Fingal County Council at Millennium Park.
It was great for Variety Ireland to partner with Fingal County Council who we view as one of the most proactive councils in Ireland in driving and supporting inclusive cycling for people with additional needs.
Since the launch of our first Cycling Inclusion Centre of Excellence in Collinstown, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 in late 2025 with the support of The DDLETB and partners at The HSE, The Department of Children, Disability and Equality and The Department of Transport, Variety Ireland and our partners are this time teaming up with Fingal County Council and The DDLETB to open up 2 more special Cycling Inclusion Centres of Excellence in Blanchardstown and Balbriggan just in time for summer.
We at Variety Ireland would like to thank Stephen and all the crew at Fingal County Council, along with Craig from Comotion for all their amazing work and efforts on the day. Watch this space for more planned static and mobile Cycling Inclusion Centres of Excellence launching this summer across Ireland.
