Special Mobility Trike Changes Lives

Special Mobility Trike Changes Lives

Inclusion outside the homestead for children with disabilities is something we strongly advocate here at Variety Ireland. Our Recycle Mobility Programme just does that, as it allows children to be included in cycling activities with their family and friends which benefits all of the family’s mental and physical wellbeing.
Thanks to our continued partnership with Minister Anne Rabbitte and Minister Roderic O’Gorman from the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth and now supported by Minister Eamon Ryan and Minister Jack Chambers of The Department of Transport in 2024, our Recycle Mobility Programme allows families with children with disabilities to apply for special mobility trikes so their children can be included in cycling activities in local parks and enjoy the new greenways springing up around our fabulous county. This supports inclusion and equality for children with disabilities.

Here is a lovely message we received from a brave young man’s parents in Co Clare, thanking ourselves and Minister Rabbitte for supporting a new special mobility trike for their son Eric during 2023. Eric who has MAPK 8iP3 Syndrome, now can enjoy the outdoors with cycling activities with all of his family. As part of our Recycle Mobility Programme, Eric is also passing on his old trike to another child with disabilities which extends the lives of all trikes which makes this programme fully sustainable and environmentally friendly. Watch out for further updates on this .

Many happy years of cycling Eric as you deserve it!

Dear Variety Ireland,
We would like to thank all at Variety Ireland and Minister Anne Rabbitte for Eric’s new trike. Eric loves to get outside in the fresh air, and this has provided him with a new means of transport, allowing him to travel further than walking alone can take him. As a result, he gets to explore new environments and visit new destinations. Healthwise, Eric gets physical activity and fresh air – all helping Eric stay physically and mentally well. As a family we are delighted as we now have an inclusive activity in which the whole family can partake in. Thank you once again for Eric’s fabulous trike!
