Thanks to the incredible fundraising initiative of a young boy called Jack, a new Mobility Trike was presented to a school in Dublin, with the help of Minister of State Hildegarde Naughton.
Jack who is 4, has a rare genetic disorder, tubulin alpha 1a, and recently received a mobility trike through Variety Ireland’s Recycle Mobility Programme which is supported by By Minister of State at The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Hildegarde Naughton and Minister Sean Canney at The Department of Transport.
The trike had such a positive impact on Jack, he wanted to help other children just like himself, enjoy the freedom and new experiences his mobility trike has provided him.
Jack was joined by actor Liam Cunningham and many other friends, for a very special walk from his preschool (The Orchard Preschool) to St Brigid’s GNS in Killester. In fact, it was thanks to Mandy and her incredible staff members at The Orchard Preschool who reached out to local actor Liam and Variety Ireland to help with this fundraising project.
Thanks to the kind and generous donations made to Jack’s Fundraiser, a new mobility trike was presented to a local school, St Brigid’s GNS, Killester, Dublin. Minister Naughton who supports our Recycle Mobility Programme, is working hard with Variety Ireland to ensure that as many children with mobility issues have equal access to cycling across Ireland.
A report conducted by the RCSI for Variety Ireland, shows that our Recycle Mobility Programme can help improve the mental and physical well-being of both the child in receipt of a new or upcycled trike and immediate family members. This supports inclusion for children with mobility issues.
This story isn’t finished yet as thanks to the generosity of donations received, another school in Jack’s area will receive their own special mobility trike in September, so children there with mobility issues will have equal access to cycling. Watch this space for updates!
Jack’s fundraiser is still running, so we can help another local school receive their own special mobility trike with the funds raised. Thank You!
