On Thursday 29th May, Irish actor and star of Games of Thrones, Liam Cunningham, joined a young child called Jack from Killester, Dublin, on a very special walk.
Jack, who is 4, has a rare genetic disorder, tubulin alpha 1a, and has recently received a mobility trike through Variety Ireland’s Recycle Mobility Programme. The trike had such a positive impact on Jack, he wanted to help other children just like himself, enjoy the freedom and new experiences his mobility trike has provided him.
Jack was joined by Liam and many other friends, for a very special walk from his preschool (The Orchard Preschool) to St Brigid’s GNS in Killester. In fact, it was thanks to Mandy and the staff at The Orchard Preschool who reached out to local actor Liam to help with this fundraising project.
The atmosphere was incredible with support from the local community and the pupils of St Brigid’s GNS lining the route and cheering Jack and Liam on. Jack completed this special journey on his own special own mobility trike, all with the aim of raising money for a mobility trike for a local school, so that the students there can also enjoy all the physical and mental benefits a mobility trike can offer.
Well the good news is, that Jack and Liam’s walk reached their fundraising target and the students of the special childcare class in St Brigid’s GNS now have their very own mobility trike. Way to go Jack and Liam!!
Remember this all happened thanks to Orchard Preschool workers Mandy, Veronica, Deirdre, and Collette. Well done ladies!
Jack’s fundraiser is still running and we hope to help another local school receive their own special mobility trike with the funds raised. Thank You!
