Cycling Inclusion for Family in Cork

One of the main benefits of our Recycle Mobility Programme is that we get to supply trikes to children with disabilities, so they can be included in cycling activities with their family and friends.

Enter a brilliant young man from the rebel county of Cork called Tony, who just  received his very own cool looking trike. These mobility trikes ensure children like Tony, can be included in cycling activities which is great for his physical and mental health. It also opens up a world of new opportunities so he can get to cycle and explore the parks and greenways across Ireland with his friends and family.

Thanks to the ongoing support of Minister Anne Rabbitte from Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth along with Minister Jack Chambers and Minister Eamon Ryan from The Department of Transport, our Recycle Mobility Programme ensure children with disabilities have access to funding for special mobility trikes so their children can be included in cycling activities with family and friends.

Here is a note we received from Tony’s mother, letting us know exactly how her son’s trike is impacting his life for the better. From all of us here at Variety Ireland and the Ministers – many happy years of cycling Tony!

“Dear Variety Ireland,
Just a note to let you know Tony is absolutely loving his new wheels!
Tony was first introduced to cycling by the wonderful staff in St. Paul’s Special School in Cork and through your Recycle Mobility Programme with the support of Minister Anne Rabbitte, Minister’s Eamon Ryan and Minister Jack Chambers, he is now able to enjoy cycling at home too! Tony is extremely energetic but is unable to master cycling a regular bicycle. His specifically adapted trike gives him the both the confidence to cycle independently and burn off some energy with his brother and sister!
As a family we are all delighted to see Tony so happy and are extremely grateful to Variety and the Ministers who support children like Tony, which has allowed to get him where he is today. Your Recycle Mobility Programme has changed his life and is brilliant for all parents for children with disabilities.
Thank you so much!”
Edel (Tony’s mother)
