The Joy of Cycling

The Joy of Cycling

Opening up new windows of opportunity for children with disabilities across Ireland is something we are Variety Ireland have been doing for years.

Our Recycle Mobility Programme is one of our environmentally friendly projects that offers children with disabilities the opportunity to be included in cycling activities, so they too can experience the freedom and joy of riding a bike. With the kind help and support of Minister Anne Rabbitte and The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, we are able to provide vital funding so children like Daniel can be included in cycling activities with their family and friends which most children take for granted.

Our recent Recycle Mobility Programme report conducted by the wonderful Dr Jolanta Burke from RCSI, University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Ireland, shows that cycling for children with disabilities can improve the mental and physical well-being of both the child with disabilities and other family members by up to 87.5%. Now that Daniel has his own special trike funded by Variety Ireland and Minister Rabbitte, Daniel can enjoy years of happy cycling in safety and comfort with his family exploring the fabulous highways and byways of Co Galway and beyond on his new trike.

Here’s a beautiful letter we received from Daniel’s mom expressing her family’s gratitude for their son’s new trike. Inclusion and equal opportunity is what it’s all about for children with disabilities.
Many happy safe years of cycling Daniel as the world is yours to be explored!

“Dear Variety Ireland
I am writing to thank Minister Anne Rabbitte from The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth and Variety Ireland’s Recycle Mobility Programme which has helped purchase this trike for my son Daniel. It’s great that Variety Ireland with the support of Minister Rabbitte are able to give children like Daniel, who has special needs, the support he requires so they he can experience the freedom and equal access to cycling with his friends and family.
This supports inclusion and fun days out which contributes to positive mental and physical well-being for all the family. It’s a magnificent programme which ensure other children like Daniel can be included in cycling activities with their own family and friends which ensures positive life changing experiences.
Thank you so much!”
Lorraine, Daniel’s Mother
