iPads for Roscommon National Schools
There was huge excitement in national schools throughout Roscommon, as they all received an iPad donated to them by Roscommon businessman Sean Mulryan and Variety – the Children’s Charity of Ireland.
As part of both Sean’s and Variety Ireland’s own commitment to “Promoting equal access to remote education”, each national school received an upcycled iPad, provided to Special Needs Assistants in every national school across the county.
Sean and Variety Ireland are passionate about helping children who require additional supports with learning. They recognise the essential duties that every Special Needs Assistant carries out on a daily basis, in helping children with learning difficulties.
Kevin O’Brien who heads up development projects for Variety Ireland said “This was a great week for Special Needs Assistants in national schools across Co Roscommon. Variety Ireland relies on donors like Sean Mulryan of Ballymore to help us deliver projects that directly benefit children who may need that extra bit of support with learning in the classroom. The fact that Sean has paid-for 95 upcycled iPads for national schools throughout Roscommon means not only is this project beneficial to addressing children’s education needs, but it is also highly environmentally friendly. As a society, we need to protect and help our most vulnerable and in doing so we also need to protect the environment and these up cycled I pads do just that. Roscommon are extremely lucky to have someone like Sean Mulryan who gets behind projects that have huge educational and environmental benefits within the county. Only last year as part of a group water scheme and Roscommon County Council initiative Sean through Variety Ireland donated 7500 Irish native trees, one for to every national school child within the county to plant in their garden at home. This is part of of our joint commitment to promoting environmental and sustainable living within the county of Roscommon”
Variety Ireland will be rolling out their national project over the next 12 months. Philanthropists who have an affiliation of links to a specific county, can commit to help Special Needs Assistants in national schools by paying for upcycled iPads to help them teach children with learning difficulties.

Variety Ireland also had another surprise in store for Sean Mulryan this week. The Oran native is the first person in Variety’s history in Ireland to receive their “Environmental Award.” Kevin O’Brien from Variety Ireland commented “We are delighted to present Sean Mulryan with this prestigious award that we present to people who support children with disabilities and our environmental initiatives.
Kevin continued “Sean truly deserves this award. He has helped children with learning difficulties by paying for sustainable upcycled iPads given to Special Needs Assistants. This coupled with him supplying native Irish trees to all national school children in Roscommon late last year is all part of his commitment to helping children and the environment.”
