Farewell to a Broadcasting Legend and Variety Gold Card Member
On behalf of our Chief Barker, Directors and members of Variety – the Children’s Charity of Ireland offer our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family of Gay Byrne.
We bid a sad farewell to someone who was undoubtedly Ireland’s greatest ever broadcaster, not to mention a key figure in Irish social evolution over the past 60 years . Gay Byrne was at the forefront of the Irish media and gave a voice to so many on both his TV and radio shows.
In November 1999, Gay became the first non-head of state to receive the International Variety Club’s highest award – Gold Card life membership.
You will be truly missed but certainly not forgotten.
