Educational Aid for Ukrainian Schoolchildren

Educational Aid for Ukrainian Schoolchildren

Education is Power and we just love being able to empower and help children enjoy equal access to education, all over the country!! Thanks to the Community Foundation, we have been able to deliver iPads to schools throughout Ireland to help newly arrived Ukrainian students with their learning.
We love hearing firsthand from these schools about the positive impact these iPads have had on their new students and here’s just some of the amazing responses we have received so far!

“Dear Variety Ireland,

We would like to thank both Variety Ireland and The Community Foundation for your very kind donation of the gift of an iPad which helps the Ukrainian children who arrived at our school to translate from English to Russian/Ukrainian and from Russian/Ukrainian to English.  The iPad has been a blessing as is helps them to learn English which is of great benefit to all of our wonderful students.  Thank you so much for thinking of us and other schools like us around Ireland!”

“Dear Variety Ireland

We are extremely grateful to Variety Ireland and The Community Foundation for your generously in supplying an iPad which  is helping pupils at our school here in Dundrum, Dublin. Our new pupils from the Ukraine are going from strength to strength each day as they settle in with their new friends and teachers. The children are themselves delighted with their new “tech” and are finding (with the help of their teachers), new and exciting ways to learn. We feel it will prove to be very beneficial to our enthusiastic young learners.

Thank you again as this is a terrific initiative!”

“To whom it may concern,

I am the Home School Community Liaison Coordinator here in Ennis Educate Together National School in County Clare. I am writing to thank you for the donation of an iPad to our school as part of your “Heart of Learning” campaign. I have worked closely with the parents of our newly-enrolled children from Ukraine over the past 8 or so months and have seen many of the challenges they are facing.

As a school that enrolled 44 children from Ukraine since last Easter, teaching English to our new arrivals has been a priority for us here in Ennis ETNS. Already stretched for space and resources, the addition of the iPad donated by yourselves at Variety is going a long way to help our teachers teach and our learners learn. Whether it’s being used for vocabulary work, translating between English, Irish and Ukrainian, recording videos, or as a way to share some fun game time, the piece of technology is making a big difference for us here. Thank you!

Kind regards,

Ennis Educate Together National School”

“Thank You very much Variety Ireland and The Community Foundation for your kind donation of an iPad.

This is a very useful resource for all students especially our Ukrainian students who we teach here at Ballintubber National School in Co Mayo.. We use the I-pad in the class for communication and translation. We have also downloaded some apps that help with phonics, sentence building and some fun maths games and activities. It is a great addition in any classroom.

Thank you again,

from all at Ballintubber National School, Co Mayo”

“Dear Variety – the Children’s Charity of Ireland

We at Ennistymon National School in Co Clare would like to thank you very much for sending us this wonderful iPad. The children from Ukraine in our school face so many challenges in accessing the language and curriculum.  Having the benefit of modern technology helps in so many ways. The iPad is visual, versatile and is already being put to good use for example …

  • Maths activities / Language games which help to make learning fun.
  • Online reading schemes which allows the text to be read aloud.
  • Facility to record the children’s own compositions
  • Invaluable translation facility.

Also, we have been able to download some very useful apps to support the children’s learning.

We very much appreciate your generosity and wish you all the very best for the Festive Season.

Thank you again

Kind regards,

Ennistymon National School”

“Dear Variety Ireland,

We received your very generous donation of an iPad and I would like to thank you and all the people who made donations, as it has been a huge benefit to both the students and teachers.

We have been using it for playing English language games, matching pictures to words, taking photographs and labelling objects and recording ourselves speaking in English – all of which are encouraging the children to become more confident and fluent English speakers. We have also been able to use it to translate, when children are having difficulty communicating in English. It’s been so useful!

We really appreciate your donation and hope that you can continue your work helping disadvantaged children to access education.

Many thanks and keep up the great work.

Yours sincerely,

 Kennedy Park School, Wexford”
