ABOUT THE HUB
Variety Ireland’s 1st Designated Greenway Disability Cycling Hub for children was opened on the Great Western Greenway, Co Mayo on 12th October 2024.
The hub, which is the first Greenway Disability Cycling Hub in Europe, is operated by our partners in Comotion, was officially opened by Minister Jack Chambers and Minister of State Dara Calleary. The hub offers children who cannot use a conventional bike, the opportunity to experience the joys of our beautiful greenways, by providing access to specially adapted mobility trikes.
Anyone can rent out one of these trikes by simply following the steps below!

HOW TO MAKE A BOOKING
Before you begin, you must download the STEED APP to make your booking.
Then it’s as easy as 1,2,3!
Inclusive Shared Mobility. Just App, Tap and Go!
Download AppDownload AppLocate
Download the STEED App and use its inbuilt map feature to locate a bike nearest to you.
Scan
Locate the QR Code on the front or rear of the Bicycle and scan it with the STEED App.
Ride
The bike will unlock automatically and then you are ready to go. Please remember to return your STEED to an authorised locking point which will be displayed within the app.
TYPES OF TRIKES
The scheme offers access to specially adapted trikes to cater for children with additional needs.
Simply choose what trike best suits the individual needs of your child.
Variety Trike – Type 1
The Variety Trike – Type 1 is ideally suited for children aged 5 years and above with a good level of control and independence.
The trike is equipped with:
– Comfort Seat
– Seat Belt
– Balance Strapped Pedals
– Freewheel hub
– Handbrake
Variety Trike – Type 2
The Variety Trike – Type 2 is slightly larger and is ideally suited for larger children and teens with a good level of control and independence.
The trike is equipped with:
– Comfort Seat
– Seat Belt
– Balance Strapped Pedals
– Freewheel hub
– Handbrake
Variety Trike – Type 3
The Variety Trike – Type 3 is ideally suited for children aged 8 years and above with a moderate level of control. The trike is equipped with:
– Standard Saddle with High Back Rest Support
– Seat Belt
– Rear Push Bar
– Balance Strapped Pedals
– Freewheel hub
WHEN YOU HAVE MADE YOUR BOOKING
After downloading the STEED App and adding credit, locate the lock on the trike’s FRONT WHEEL and scan the QR Code with the app. This will unlock the trike and you can start your journey. A parent / guardian or responsible adult must stay with the child at all times.
Release the handbrake (grey lever) located below the handlebars. Always remember to re-apply the handbrake every time you stop.
This will prevent the trike from rolling away and make it easier and safer for the rider to get on and off the trike.
Ride with Safety – Always make sure the rider is wearing a helmet.
A responsible adult must accompany the rider and be in control of the trike at all times.
ALWAYS RETURN THE TRIKE TO THE HUB WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED.
Remember to Slide the lever and close the the lock and press
“End Journey”
in the app.
