Cycling Opportunities for Bobby in Dublin

Trikes support inclusion for children with disabilities. Since 2021, Variety Ireland, with the support of Minister Norma Foley and Hildegarde Naughton from The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth and Minister Daragh O’Brien and Minister Sean Canney from The Department of Transport, have helped hundreds of young children get their very own special mobility trike.

To add to this, lots of special schools have also received trikes that have been handed by children receiving a new one. Our fully sustainable Recycle Mobility Programme ensures we recycle old trikes so other children can be included in cycling activities with their friends at school.

Say hello to Bobby from North Dublin who just received his new trike. He now enjoys wonderful days out on the greenways across Ireland and cycling activities with other family members. Thanks to our Recycle Mobility Programme, we can ensure wonderful children like Bobby now have access to equal access to cycling which is great for both his mental and physical health and that of all other family members. Here is a note and photos we received from Bobby’s mother, with him now enjoying his trike.

I just wanted thank you for Bobby  special trike and we are all over the moon. Bibby is so happy with it I can’t thank you and all the Ministers involved  enough for giving us funding towards his bike. You have helped make one little boy very happy. It means so much to me and his daddy as Bobby’s new trike has open up a whole new world for us all to be outside cycling, He has never been able to ride a bike because of his disability which has always been heart-breaking for us as his parents because is one big steps in a child’s life learning to ride a bike. Now thanks to your Recycle Mobility Programme, we can explore the outdoors as a family with Bobby smiling and laughing riding his favourite trike in his favourite colour.
