Cycling Therapy for Jamie in Co Kildare

We at Variety Ireland believe that all children are equal, regardless of their ability. This is why we love to see children being included in cycling activities with their family and friends.

Meet young Jamie from Kildare who has Cerebral Palsy. This means he has limited movement. This fabulous young man loves to be outdoors and included in activities with friends. Thanks to Variety Ireland’s “Recycle Mobility Programme”, supported by Minister Hildegarde Naughton and The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Sean Canney from The Department of Transport and the HSE, it now means that Jamie can experience and enjoy our wonderful countryside and new greenways with assisted help of his family and friends with a new trike supplied as part of our programme. This not only contributes to her own mental well-being, but also ensures she can be included in cycling activities.

Here is a quick note and video sent to us by Jamie’s mum letting us know how Jamie is enjoying his new special mobility trike.

“Dear Variety Ireland,
Just a quick note to say a huge thank you to you all at Variety Ireland and Minister Naughton, Minister Canney and The HSE for Jamie’s new mobility trike!
Having this new trike we got with the help from Variety Ireland and the ministers has been the best present for us. Jamie is limited with lower limbs movement but the trike helps him so much with this because of the amount of movement he does that it helps with his spasticity but also building the muscles. It helps greatly for his hip movement and rotation and it motivates him to push the pedals as well which is a significant factor for him to increase his abilities. The amount of movement he gets on the trike equals a lot of exercise which was not possible before. It is the best equipment we have ever have for him. It is therapeutic, but also enjoyable.
Many many thanks for helping us getting it for Jamie. We are very grateful!”
