New Cycling Opportunities for Rose of Kildare, Róisín

New Cycling Opportunities for Rose of Kildare, Róisín

There was great excitement last week when Minister of State for Transport, James Lawless turned up to a house in Co Kildare to deliver a Variety Ireland special mobility trike to a young lady called Róisín.

Minister James Lawless and The Department of Transport along with Minister Anne Rabbitte and The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth support our Recycle Mobility Programme help provide special mobility trikes to children with mobility issues across Ireland. This fully sustainable mobility programme also ensure that when a child out grows their trike, it is then passed onto another child or special school so others can get to experience the same enjoyment of cycling.

Róisín’s new trike now means she can be included in cycling activities with her brothers and other family members. It opens up a world of new opportunities where Roisin can cycle in safety and comfort. In a report carried out by Dr Jolanta Burke of the RCSI shows our Recycle Mobility Programme can improved the physical and mental well-being of both the child and immediate family members by 87.5%.

Thanks to the continued support of both Ministers and their Departments, our Recycle Mobility Programme is a vital tool to ensure children with disabilities have equal access to cycling.

On half of all of us here at Variety Ireland and both Minister James Lawless and Minister Anne Rabbitte, may we all wish you many happy years of cycling Róisín!

“Dear Variety Ireland,
I just want to say a special thanks to your charity and Minister James Lawless for coming to our home last week to present our daughter Róisín with her new mobility trike. To sum things up, she loves it and is never off it as she cycles around the lane way at our home. The smile on her face says it all and she loves to be out cycling with her brothers.
Your Recycle Mobility Programme is so important as it assists families in getting a special trikes for their child so they can be included in cycling actives with their friends. Well done top you all and the ministers and their departments for ensuring children like Róisín have equal access to cycling which is beneficial to both their mental and physical health.
Keep up the good work and behalf of us all here and Roisin, a massive thank you!”
